California has some amazing variety when it comes to landscapes so, it can be difficult to pick a location! We put together a list of a few top California destinations that will hopefully act as a spring board to planning your elopement!

Yosemite

Yosemite National Park is within the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California and surrounded by Sequoia trees. It’s a great place to vacation, but an even better place to elope with your loved one! If you do plan on an elopement in Yosemite, a wedding permit is required. The permit is $150 but make sure to check their website (https://www.nps.gov/yose/index.htm) for updated information.

Big Sur

Big Sur is a stretch of California’s central coast between Carmel and San
Simeon. It is bordered to the east by the Santa Lucia Mountains and the west by the Pacific Ocean. It’s traversed by narrow, 2-lane State Route 1, known for
winding turns, seaside cliffs and views of the often-misty coastline. The
populated region has numerous state parks for hiking, camping and beach
sightseeing.

Sequoia National Park

Sequoia National Park is the place to go for an enchanting forest getaway.
Sequoia trees are 3,266 years old & the giant sequoias are the third longest living
tree. They stand at 250 feet tall and more than 35 feet in diameter. They are
beautiful giants, just waiting to pose for pictures with you and your loved one.
While spending time in the Sequoias, be aware of changes in weather and uneven
ground.

Julian

Julian is a small town with a big hearted community. In the 1800s it was the place to be for people who were in search of gold! Today, Julian welcomes you with apple pies, history of gold mining and of course, the beautiful outdoors as your elopement location! Julian CA is located in the Laguna Mountains about 9 miles from Lake Cuyamaca. The elevation is 4,200 ft. while the drive to Julian is about a 1 hour and 15 minutes east of San Diego.

Small Town, Sweet Destination 

South Lake Tahoe

Lake Tahoe is 72 mile trip around the lake in both California and Nevada. The
weather can change depending on the season, summer time is warm and mostly clear, while winters are cold, wet and partly cloudy. Make sure to plan your elopement around weather months. If you want the warm weather for your elopement and activities, months between June to late August is highly recommended.

Glamis Sand Dunes

Weather can rapidly change! Be prepared! If you visit in / during warmer
temperatures, expect those temps to remain high and hot throughout the
day. The sand can reach up to 150 degrees and possible thunderstorms in
the afternoon. Temperatures can go as low as 10 degrees in the winter time
& may experience high winds in the spring. No matter what season, always
expect cooler temperatures in the evening.
(Avoid going between hot hours 12-3pm)

Anza Borrego Desert

- 600,000 Acres
- Best time to visit October-April
- 2 hours from San Diego and 90 minutes from Palm Springs
- $10 for day use & per vehicle
- Drive to the town of Borrego Springs, go to the Anza Borrego Desert State Park Visitor’s center and buy their map for $2 it will definitely help you get around the park.
